Additional Travel Information
Contact your air carrier, before your journey, to ensure
that you have the proper size and type of carrier and documents.
Ask about special regulations regarding pets in-cabin when making a
reservation. A current health certificate, including
inoculations, is essential. To prevent air sickness, no food should be offered
within 6 hours of departure, no water within 2 hours of flight time.
Most airlines place greater restrictions on pugs, bulldogs and other
short-nosed breeds (this goes for cats as well) these breeds are exceptionally susceptible to heat.
Pit bulls are banned from most airlines
On flights of less than 6 hours most airlines will allow pets to be taken with the passenger in the cabin (except travel to the UK).
PLEASE NOTE:
No reader should act solely on the basis of this information without
contacting the necessary airline or government agency. The information here is
general and air travel restrictions out of the country may vary greatly. The ASPCA recommends against pets flying in the cargo area with luggage due to temperature and anxiety concerns. You may want to consider This company will fly your larger dog (and many other pets) in a temperature controlled plane, not in cargo. They also provide a pet attendant.
